Make Those Pocket Pairs Worthy

Getting into a hand with pocket pairs in Texas Holdem is something cool, but what happens when the pair is a low or medium pair? Are you ready to face the challenge?
I used to play almost everything, from pair of Ducks to Ace's, and got lucky with those 2's more times than with the Ace's. However, I don't recommend doing that; hard lessons come from playing that way.
With a medium pocket pair, there are some strategies to follow if you want to success. The most common is to raise your PP, take out all the players you can avoid bad beats and eliminate most of the competition; (You want to be the bad beater not the bad beaten. Jk) the fewer opponents you have to face on the flop, more chances for your PP to gain something. Usually, those who remain in the hand may have something that could challenge your PP, maybe higher pairs or straight connectors and flush nuts.
This usually works better when you are in late positions, because if you raise in early positions; then you can get re raised or called by two or more opponents. So, try to be the one who's going to call or re raise and take all the competition out.
When playing with low values PP, another strategy may be playing is to call unraised bets, and with a bit of luck you can hit something stronger, I hit quads in the flop once with pocket 2's; my opponent got mad after that. Opportunities like that, can happen; but is more probably to hit a set than a quad.
A set (3 of a kind) is a strong hand, and no one really expect it because this hand is usually very stealthy, and possibilities of hitting a full house increase as the hand advance.
Always try to play PP's high cards, don't take too seriously my playing with the duckies. 9's or higher PP's will increase your chances of success. Lower pairs are better folded when too much money is at risk.

Pai Gow Poker History
History of Pai Gow Poker lies in the fascinating ancient Chinese game of Pai Gow. The original game of Pai Gow was played by the Chinese with tiles that were similar to dominoes. These tiles, or dominoes, were separated into groups by the Pai Gow dealer and then a roll of the dice determined which set of tiles belonged to which player. In the 1800's different versions of the Pai Gow game existed in China. As other games, Pai Gow is believed to have been brought into the United States in the 1800's, by Chinese immigrants who arrived to work in mines and on the railways. In Califonia, this chinese game changed its name from Pai Gow to Pai Gow Poker to get around gambling laws.
